Several New Amy Howard Products are now available at the Fox Den – one of which is Spray Chalky Paint for $11! In contrast to the Furniture Lacquer, the Chalky Paint has a matte finish – and can optionally be sealed with the new Mind Your Own Beeswax.
Here is an example of the spray chalky paint in ‘Creme Brulee’ done on a Herendon table:
The finish is flawless and was easy to apply (the key is to apply several thin coats in slow, even strokes). As with any “spray” paint, it should be applied in a well ventilated area. Once dry, a coat of Mind Your Own Beeswax was wiped on with a shop towel.
Although I still enjoy having a paint brush in my hand, I love how the spray saves time on pieces with hard-to-reach areas. I definitely plan to use this on chairs that have a lot of spindles (which can be tiresome to paint with a brush). In fact, this will be a quick and easy way to update chairs for the Holidays.
Although sanding and priming is not necessary, it is always recommended to clean the piece thoroughly before painting. Clean Slate works really well for removing built up grease and grime.
